Post Puerto Rico: Choosing Crazy over Comfort

Two weeks ago tonight, I met the 10 individuals who I would travel to Puerto Rico with to share Christ’s unconditional, abundant love. My emotions were running in 5 million, different directions as I tried to fall asleep on a sleeping mat in a tent as the rain relentlessly poured down. I was nervous to see what our trip would encompass, I was unsure if I was where God even wanted me to be, practically I was super uncomfortable. When I signed up for this trip, I knew it wasn’t going to be comfortable. I had gone on mission trips before, but always with the comfort of...

Time for Change

Waa gwaan! Kayleigh here! The moment we walked out of the airport, we could see jesus through the people of jamaica. It’s day 4 in Jamaica and we have already street evangelized to the local Jamaicans, cut and painted cardboard soldiers for a VBS, tagged along to a game of futból, and teached 25 people, ages ranging from 9 to 25, how to play basketball! I am excited to see the Lord continue to move the rest of this adventure! On a more personal note, I have been frustrated, moved, and changed during the past 7 days, which include the 3 days of training camp. Going into the...

the boy behind the wall

Im usually never drawn towards mysteries, but the boy behind the wall intrigued me. The first day we were here, before lunch, I noticed a small boy about the age of 12 peering ever so slightly over the wall that was almost as tall as he was. Something in my heart told me to approach the boy, so without question, I did. We introduced ourselves and i began my close friendship with Kemar. At first, he was shy and seemed as if he wasn’t interested. So, after a little, I went to lunch, expecting him to be gone. But to my surprise, he was behind the wall, waiting for me. We talked about our...

Jamaica mon

Blog #1 So I have now been in Jamaica for 3 days. It has been the best three days of my life. The amount of relationships I have made so quickly is crazy!!! I never thought it would only take me 3 days to feel like I’ve known these people my whole life. On this trip I have realized many things, but the main thing is this, Everyone has said on missions that they change your lives, which is amazing!!!, but what has changed my mind set on missions is that we should be changing the people’s lives. I have always thought that but now it all makes sense. I know the people of Jamaica...

Two Languages, One Love

It is hard to believe we have only been on the ground in Guatemala for three days! We had another full day today beginning with a soccer game at a local school. Our team ran into some students at the bus stop yesterday and they invited us to visit their school today for a USA vs. Guatemala match.  Our team fought hard, but was defeated (a lot to a little). But despite this loss, we won many new friends, from little pre-schoolers just learning English to high school students anxious to practice their English with their new friends.  After lunch the team went back into town for...

Update from Puerto Rico!

What a week it has been since our last post! Last week our time was split between work projects and Vacation Bible School.   The team got their hands dirty cleaning up a yard that was overgrown with weeds, plants, and broken up cement blocks.  The families living on the property were unable to do the work themselves, so we were happy to make a difference.  The yard looked great when we finished up.     After lots of sweat and hard work each morning, we headed back to camp for lunch and some chill time before heading back to the barrio.   One of our hosts,...
