Ashes and Happiness

What are the things that make kids happy? Barbie dolls, iPads, McDonald’s, XBox, Legos, Hoverboards, and the list is never ending. These toys and inanimate objects never really satisfy them, because by Christmas they need a whole new bunch of toys. Imagine sending these children outside to play on an ash covered road with only a worn out soccer ball. How long do you think this would entertain them? 15 minutes? 30? I would say that it would be less than 10 minutes before at least one of them started to complain about something. “It’s too hot”  “I...

Peace

Peace, by Abby Bender   The last few days have been so incredible and it is so evident how God hand-picked this team to do amazing things. A few days ago, James said “I feel like God is breaking down everything I thought I was and building me back up into someone new.” Anyone at home would probably tell you I am talkative, outgoing, and that I always have an opinion to share. Here, that has not been me. I have been described as the “quiet one”. I noticed the change in me and was aware that I was not as talkative as I normally am, and it bothered me until I...

First Day of Ministry in Guatemala

Today was our first day in ministry! In the morning, I had a chance to talk to Marielle – who works with Adventures in Missions discipleship program. I shared with her my entire testimony. The past two and a half years, I have gone through many ups and downs in my life where sometimes I have felt like everything was falling into multiple little tiny pieces. I also thought that sometimes God was never around because I have not heard the Lord’s voice or felt His presence. I would ask and ask God for more of Him and I thought I was not receiving anything. Then almost instantly, God...

Dusty

A month or so before coming to Nepal, I felt the Lord speak a song on my heart. It was light, airy, and full of joy. For me, it just spoke so much truth and encouragement about my upcoming trip half way around the world. When I finished the lyrics, I was kind of confused with the Lord, asking why he had given me a song called “Dusty” when I was going to a mountainous country that was pictured with rain and clean air. However, I now know that the name could not have fit more perfectly.        ...

Fear Is A Liar

Fear Is A Liar This morning the devil came at me hard. He told me that I had gotten myself in over my head. I was too far in and I couldn’t get out. He told me that I was not loving enough, I wasn’t kind enough, I wasn’t spiritual enough, I wasn’t strong enough. He told me I wasn’t good enough to be on this trip. But guess what, fear is a liar! Today ended up being one of the coolest days of my life. I got to explore the city of Iquitos with my new family, my new best friend Day and I joined a soccer game with a bunch of local Peruvians, we tried Peruvian ice...

Activation Day 1

Activation is when we start the day asking God how he wants us to serve, and then we go out and do it. In our group there was the two of us plus Pricila and Kelly. During our prayer, God showed me, Michal, big yellow flowers. And with that, we set out on our quest to do God’s will in San Luis. After much wandering and corner turning, we found yellow flowers. They were right outside the door of  complex of houses. We immediately went up to the houses and talked to one of the women working outside. Her name was Amanda. When we asked her if she needed prayer over anything...
