Life in Uganda!

Life in Uganda is good. And yet, the African bush is incredibly different from what we’re used to back home. Here’s a glimpse into our daily life! At 7:30am we come together for a traditional Eastern African breakfast that is often served with flat bread (Chipati) or even donuts (Mandazi). There’s always popping hot tea and coffee to sip as well!  This week we spent some of our days at a local school. The school doesn’t have electricity, they have ONE book for an entire classroom of students, and they only have 22 pencils for a group 35 students.  Quite...

The Last Supper

As we come upon our last day in Jamaica, emotions flood. This place has taught me: how to love others well, that it is okay to not be okay, that you’re gonna get called “whitie” every day so just get over it now, you will sweat in places unimaginable, 23 girls CAN actually get along for 2 weeks (praise the lord), 200 Jamaican dollars does not make you rich, mosquito spray is like gold over here, sleepovers with locals actually aren’t that weird, journal every little thing or you’ll forget it all, the meat WILL have bones in it, no matter how safe it looks, your...

Ziar

Title: ZiarFirst let me start by saying all the kids here in Jamaica are so amazing. They are so fun and loving and you can just tell that they love to be loved and played with. One little boy has really stood out to me among the rest. His name is Ziar and he is 5 years old. I’ve been watching him for about two days now, he doesn’t talk to anyone and when you go up to talk to him he runs away. I tried so many times to connect with him and he just wouldn’t let me. Finally I bribed him into coming over to me by giving him one of the “Jesus loves me bracelets” I...

Peace Within My Calling

From the moment I got here I felt at ease. We jumped off the bus eager and ready to meet the Jamaicans. They were so loving and excited to have us. After spending time meeting the members of their team, I jumped into a game of basketball. Me participating in sports is a joke, but my energy was so positive. Thoughts kept rushing through my head that came from no where. “Be curious”, The Holy Spirit told me. Moments of peace filled me up. I realized that I was exactly where God called me to be. Dancing around with the kids, making a fool of myself trying to shoot, and allowing...

Just a Touch

My team that is separate from our whole team has been doing the community outreach aspect of the trip. We go out every morning after breakfast and we walk around the village areas of Jamaica and we talk to the different people. There have been some amazing people that we have come in contact with and have been able to pray alongside and hear about their life. But some days we don’t get so lucky with people. We walk the streets and no one comes out, and our spirits are low. So we stop and we pray along the way for God to send us people. On multiple occasions people walk out of their...

Be Curious

On our second day of ministry I was eager to hear more. Hear more from the people of Jamaica and truly dig into how they know God. That is when I met a man named Taffawha. After embarrassing myself in soccer not one but two days in a row, I pulled Taffawha aside to talk with some of my teammates. He told us about his family and what it was like growing up. My heart was so full after hearing about his love for Christ. He was eager to share his love for Christ and his determination to follow him all his days. It was in these moments that I truly noticed that God’s love is Everywhere....
