Mahanain

Today we went to Mahanain, the poorest community we will be visiting on this trip. This community has no water, no electricity, and no actual bathrooms. On the drive there, there was an awful smell, due to the nearby shrimp factory. Despite this unwelcoming stench, the community was very inviting. I had the opportunity to talk with an elderly woman, named Julianna, and two young girls. Before we sat down and chatted, she made sure to brush off the chair well. I saw this and appreciated the fact that though she had little, she wanted to make sure that what she did have was in tip-top...

First Experiences

Going on a mission trip for the first time can be intimidating, especially if you’re with strangers. However, it can also be life changing.  For me, this trip so far has been a memorable one. On the last night of launch, during our worship time, I experienced God’s presence in a way that I’ve always longed for. I think a part of my heart grew closer to God and for that I am so thankful. I’ve also experienced a lot of “firsts” on this journey. I’ve gone to three new places. I’m flown on a plane. I’ve done a prayer walk. I’ve...

Team USA, Day 4: Going to School

Today we went to school. But it wasn’t your typical sit-in-a-classroom day at school. We got down and dirty cleaning and organizing. My team and I had the opportunity to sit down with the principal of a K-8 school in Pilsen and just get real for a minute. He was so friendly and made us laugh a lot, but he also told us about the corruption in our school system and the difficulties of being a principal today. After much laughing and some deep conversations, we split into groups to get to work. One group went to dust, wash walls, and clean windows, another to help organize a...

Four Days…in Albania!

We have been in Albania a total of 4 days now and are learning the ropes of serving on a Farm. This includes a lot of new experiences for many, such as bottle feeding baby pigs, cleaning out goat stalls, stacking hay-bells, various yard work, and all of the duties of being an extra hand on this amazing sustainable farm. We are each learning more through our Team Times and study of Proverbs in the morning with our kind host, George. God has been showing us more about wisdom and how to study the word intentionally. Next week the kids will be coming for kids camp. We are excited to be able to...

Jefferson and Kevin.. (Guat 4)

As I ventured out on day 2 of serving in Guatemala, my leader announced to the group that it would be a good idea to make connections with the kids that we would meet that day, because we would be seeing them again soon. As I listened to the announcement, I loved the prospect of it, but didn’t really think twice about the idea, as young kids have never exactly been my forte. I was expecting to step in, say “Hola”, give them a smile and be on my way. We arrived at the village and I began doing just that. That is until two young boys and I continued to cross paths. I finally...
