Pictures from the Swazi Team

Here are some pictures from the past week:   Always finding a beautiful view. Caroline and Katelin spent some time in the preschool room teaching songs and playing games. We filled up so many wheel barrels full of dirt to fill holes around the care point.  Grace learned how to make popcorn over the stove this week– she did great!  Annie and Dani patiently waiting for the popcorn. The popcorn did not disappoint! All the smiles and thumbs up for popcorn!  We painted the bathroom at the care point a beautiful lime green. Most of the girls came home looking like...

Half-way Through

Well yall. It’s been two weeks today, and we’ve got two more to go. God’s love has already immeasurably surrounded us. We have met many incredible people and have made outstanding relationships. The laughter of the team has filled the hallways of our team house and with all these experiences, the enemy is still bound to throw hardships and doubts our way.               Coming onto this trip many of us were expecting big things. And the Lord has shown us huge things, but in different way than we could have...

AIM in Swaziland

This Monday the team went to a ministry debrief at the AIM offices in Manzini. We learned about the work that is being done in Swaziland. First, some statistics, the population of Swaziland is 1.3 million and 45% of that is under 18. Life expectancy is only 51 years, 69% under poverty line and unemployment is over 40%. In a lot of cases one person’s working salary supports 13 people. AIM has created Care points to help aid in this area as to come along side the community and help them as they support their families. Care points provide 2 meals a day,  it also has a formal...

Reflections of Nicaragua

I made it!!! I’m finally back in the states!!! The feelings are bittersweet. I am so excited to see my family, but my heart breaks thinking about my missions family I’ll be leaving behind. These past few weeks have been one wild ride, but I am so thankful for everything that has happened. So many good memories, laughs, tears and experiences. It would be nearly impossible to list it all, but I thought I’d talk about some of my favorites.   There’s nothing like getting your butt kicked by a 5 year old Nicaraguan boy in a game of soccer. One day in particular we...

Team USA: Someone I’ll Never Forget

While we were in Chicago, we had multiple opportunities to work and build relationships with people in the homeless community at Pacific Garden Mission. Here, Launa and Kassidy share about conversations that really impacted them. “Jack” and “Mike” are men we met during our work there. Their names have been changed to protect their privacy. His name was Jack. Jack was nearly lame. People had beaten up his legs, and he is now barely able to walk even with a walker. He shared his dreams of California and the movie industry with me, but ended each dream with...

All My Sisters

This trip has been insane. I cannot believe it’s over and if Ii were saying that out loud I would be getting choked up. I am going to miss Nicaragua and everyone I met there so so so much!   Before this trip I never really considered the fact that I would meet this group of girls, go on a three week trip with them, and then leave and never see some, if not most of them ever again until after I die.   It’s like they are all my sisters, and not just in Christ, but like biological sisters. We are all so comfortable together, we know each other’s lives and deep dark...
