The Gospel is Boring

In the same way “You’ll shoot your eye out kid” seems to lose a bit of humor each holiday season, the stories of Jesus feeding the five thousand, Peter on the water, and Christ on the cross decrease in power. This is the truth for many people at some point during their spiritual walk. The Gospel becomes boring. Something along the lines of, “If I hear about Jesus calming the storm one more time I’m going to combust,” has sadly trudged through my brain heavy with dread during a sermon or two. How can this be when I truly love Jesus? I’ve realized...

She Smiled

Today we did market ministry. As I was walking down the streets of Manzini, I saw a blind woman alone begging on the sidewalk. My heart started beating fast and I knew I couldn’t just walk past her without doing anything, so I told my teammates there was a blind woman we should go visit, so our group stopped and I walked up to her. She didn’t know much English. She told us she knew Jesus and she said she had accepted the fact she was blind and told us not to pray for her blindness, but rather for her to get off the streets and get a job. So I grabbed her hand and such a...

home.

On the second day of our trip to Costa Rica, I was sitting outside during Jesus time, and these words spilled onto the page in front of me.   “Today is our second day in Costa Rica. I am sitting outside in the fiery heat, listening to the bustling sounds of San Jose, preparing to leave to minister in the slums of Costa Rica, and I have never felt more content. This place is home. These people I’ve met are my family. My feet are caked with the dirt of the ground, yet they dance. The voices of the children shouting words in a language that I seldom understand, wrap my heart...

Muddy Water

Sometimes faith is a little like muddy water. We can see the pool of it, but we cannot see what lies underneath. As I walked down the streets of Nepal trying to avoid the pools of muddy water created by the monsoon season, I was thinking about what God was teaching me on this trip. At the beginning of this trip, during training camp, Don asked us a question during our first listening prayer. He wanted us to ask the Lord what gift he was going to give us on this trip. At first, I thought I couldn’t hear anything, but later during worship I realized that I didn’t trust that it was...

Immeasurably More

By Lindsey Keith – Guatemala 2 Week 2nd Launch Immeasurably more. Two words, that put together, speak such volumes. Some never fail to know that God will provide, that he will love, that he will comfort you. But what if there’s more? The Lord we serve provides prolifically more. He loves radically and unconditionally, and he comforts beyond comprehension. These two words, “immeasurably more” have been my phrase of focus since coming to Guatemala, a country and culture that has completely enthralled me. Ephesians 3:20-21 reads, “Now to him who is able to do...

A Miracle-Working God

Jesus Healed Ivan.    Thursday was what we call an “Off Day.” It simply means that we didn’t have any scheduled ministry and we could spend the day exploring the town or, if we wanted, we could just rest. Up until our “Off Day” we had been working long hours with the children’s ministry in the slum, the ‘old men’s home’, cleaning, or having our team times and feedback sessions. Not to mention that we stayed out til 11pm playing soccer with the kids from church the night before… We were all starting to...
