Pura Vida!

Hello to all our family, friends, and supporters from Costa Rica!

I have the opportunity to write a quick update of the team and how everything is going.  I am typing this blog from our host{s computer, which has been configured to work on spanish websites, so you{ll have to forgive some of the symbols being mixed up!

We arrived at the San Jose airport safe and sound yesterday around noon our time (2 pm EST).  Pastor Marcos and his wife Edy received us at the airport and we took a chartered bus to El Eden church campus.  El Eden is the church that we{ll be serving with during our time here.  There were about 50 church }members waiting on the campus for our arrival, and as we walked out of the bus toward the kitchen, they cheered in excitement that we were finally here.  It was quite humbling.

The women of the church had prepared a meal for our team.  Rice, beans, and chicken… with some Costa Rican coffee to follow.  Our hosts have been so hospitable toward us.  They have servant{s hearts and the love of Christ is visible in the way they treat us and each other.  Our team has been overwhelmed at the church{s hospitality and kindness.

Last night, Pastor Marcos called a short ceremony to celebrate us being here and introduce us to many of the church people.  The team really enjoyed meeting the grupo de jovenes (youth group) and singing worship songs in Spanish!

Today, we helped the El Eden youth group do community evangelism in the barrio (neighborhood) surrounding the church campus.  The team performed a drime (silent drama to music) that they learned at training camp and handed out bulletins inviting people to attend some of the upcoming church events.  Right now, the team is working with the local youth group to prepare for the VBS type children{s ministry we will be helping with on Thursday.  There will be about 500 kids present!

So the team is doing great.  Thankfully everyone is healthy and also enjoying the meals that are being graciously prepared for us.  It{s been neat to see them communicate even past the language barrier that is present.  They are loving Costa Rica so far, and all the people at the El Eden as well.

We thank you so much for your prayers and ask that you would keep praying for us.  We are jumping into ministry now and excited about all that God has in store over the next several days!
