Team Muchacas de Especia (translated to “Spice Girls”) has been in Costa Rica for a little over a week now. Every single one of us has been floored by the fact that we’ve only known each other less than two weeks. We feel like a family who deeply enjoys belly-laughter and the company of every other girl on the team. We feel like we’ve been together for years and are having a hard time comprehending life before knowing each other.
For the last week, we’ve been living and working with Metro Ministries in San Jose. Our ministry hosts, Jose and Renatte, are wonderful and have been so hospitable (If you would be willing, please check out their website: https://www.metroministriescostarica.org/). Metro Ministries does weekly youth outreach and bi-annual VBS programs. We’ve had the privilege of assisting them put on the VBS programs in three different San Jose neighborhoods. The girls have LOVED playing soccer with the kids and communicating with them, even with the language barrier–English and Spanish are being practiced!
We have loved Metro Ministries and we are all very sad because tomorrow we leave San Jose and travel to Puerto Viejo on the south-eastern coast. We will be partnering with YWAM and staying at their base there. Our host, Jose, will be driving us from San Jose to Puerto Viejo, and we leave at 9:30am tommorow. It will be a 5-7 hour drive, depending on traffic. I will post a blog tomorrow letting everyone know that we arrived safe!
Here are a few pictures from the last week!
