You know you?re in Africa when?

You know you’re in Africa when… Mzungu. Point Blank. You don’t need an alarm clock because a 5-year-old African child jumps on you. You think you have a Chaco tan but it’s really just dirt. You take a cold shower every day and you turn into a new level of stank. Beans and rice. 5 hour church services. 4 days a week. 20 people cram into a 6-person bus. You almost get run over daily. Punctuality is only a suggestion. Getting peed on by an orphan is a daily occurrence. You kill a mosquito and yell “MALARIA” and feel accomplished. You paid to get your hair...

Schools-Uganda vs. America

This is my first time to ever blog so it might not be the best-written piece but bear with me. We have been here a little over a week and God moved so much since we have stepped off the plane. God has really laid on my heart the schools here in Uganda. There are so many things that are different here but they are so much better than in America. In America, education is free and everyone goes to school. Here, in Uganda, it is a privilege to go to school. School is NOT free in Uganda. Families have to pay for their children go to school, so not that many kids are able to go. The kids that do...

Special Day at Timbutini 2 Carepoint

Today, we had the opportunity to host a special fun day for the care point at Timbutini Two, which is the care point we visit every afternoon during the week. This is a care point that isn’t sponsored and we are the first group to serve there. Some of the children at this care point have never seen white people so us just being there is special to them, but this truly was a special day.  We were able to provide the children and the Gogo’s at this care point with a day of games, food and lots of laughter. As we arrived around 9:30 there was already a crowd of children...

It’s All About You, Jesus!

I love Africa. I love the fact that red dirt covers everything. I love the bad smells and dirty feet. I love hearing the word “Mzungu!” I love the warm hugs and big smiles. This place is tragically beautiful. Trash is everywhere, and so is potential. What these people need is to be taught Scripture. They need truth spoken into their lives. Many of them know of Jesus, but many don’t know much more than His name. I long for them to know His love, His truth, His grace, His forgiveness, and His acceptance. I hope to introduce someone to the freedom that is...

Just Go With It

From the first steps on Ugandan soil (beautifully rich soil) our team of sixteen girls, who became like family after a few short hours, adopted the phrase, “Just Go with It”. I’m not talking about just showing up at churches and being unexpectedly requested to sing a song, or to show what we have prepared for them. The phrase “just go with it” also implies not taking the time to complain or question the situation. God’s been showing me so much, but one of things is listening, and obeying. At the training camp, back in Atlanta, God had laid the...

From Where I Stand

Exhaustion. What we all have been feeling now that our incredible adventure is soon coming to an end. Looking back to the very first day, it’s hard to believe I had never been on a plane, that we all knew so little Spanish, and that we thought we could beat the locals at soccer. Throughout this trip we have seen God work, we’ve invited Him to lead our leaders. And the willingness to learn, to try, to discover the reality of God’s love has become a common theme for our team.                I know, for myself anyway, I embarked on this...
