Be Still

When God placed Uganda on my heart, I had this sudden urge to just get up and go. I had this picture of me moving mountains and changing a nation. I thought all these broken people were going to see Jesus in me and be forever changed, but God had a completely different picture in mind. Since the first day at training camp, back in Georgia, God has been placing the words “Be Still” all over me. One night we were all worshipping and singing our lungs out, but I felt like I needed to stop and listen. I was washed over with this sense of emptiness. See, I have heard people say things like “Jesus told me this” or “God is calling me to this”, but I have never truly heard him speak to me. I have always been so consumed with staying busy and trying so hard to please people that I was never still enough to hear his voice. So I asked Kelly to come pray over me. She asked God to teach me something big while we were in Uganda, that I would focus on being still, and that He would change me. God was so listening to that prayer because he has flipped my world upside down. I’ve been allowing God to use others words to speak to me instead of constantly trying to think of something else to say, which has allowed me to have relationships with my team that I otherwise wouldn’t have. In order to be able to listen to God I must first be able to listen to the people close to me, which my parents have told me numerous times, it just took me a while to finally get it. Now I’m not saying that I’ve mastered this, but I have started learning how to be still and listen. I have been praying with more purpose and reading my Bible with the intent of hearing God through it. Ya’ll, I seriously encourage you not to allow yourself to be sucked into the world so much that you forget to stop and listen to God. He has big things to tell you if only you would listen. O what joy I was engulfed with when I heard His stern, yet sweet voice. I want nothing more for you than for you to experience this joy that could only be from God.

“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
