Back in Antigua

Team Guatemala is back in Antigua and we apologize for the lack of updates over the past few days. After spending ten days in San Pedro, we packed up the team and drove to Tulate. We spent three days doing ministry in this quaint beach town where the team had a chance to put their feet in the Pacific, play soccer with the local team, and put on some more VBS programs at local schools.  We did not have access to wifi, but it was a unique experience for the team to unplug for a few days. We drove back to beautiful Antigua today and we can’t wait to share more stories with you from...

Being back in America

So, being back in America….. Of course there are many differences between the lifestyle of Jamaica and the U.S…… Like, I missed air conditioning, but I miss the church fans that I would stand in front of as much as possible! I missed my bed, but the church pew wasn’t that bad! I missed my friends, but I made 26 in the process! I can’t replace family, but I’m glad to say that I could now call those people my Jamaican Fam?? The lord really did bless me by sending me on this trip, and I couldn’t be more thankful that he did! On the trip I realized a...

Learning To Say Yes

Throughout these past few weeks in Guatemala, I have been searching for a “central theme” regarding what God is trying to teach me during my time here. And I think I found it. Two weeks before I left the U.S., I read a book called Kisses From Katie, and not only is it an incredible book, but it’s also the sort of book that really sticks with you. Going into training camp, I still had Katie’s words on my mind and there was one quote in particular I couldn’t shake: “I don’t always know where this life is going. I can’t see the end of the road,...

why are you here?

One of the many repeated questions for this trip is “why are you here?”–why have you chosen to spend four weeks of your summer in a forgotten country called Swaziland? My short answer is “because God told me too.” Although that is true, there is so much more to it. It was so clear to me that God wanted me on this trip. I had such peace about the decision I made last September to go on a four week mission trip to Swaziland. We are commanded to love our neighbors and to put them before ourselves. I have been blessed so so much. I have a great family, home,...

Being a Teacher is Hard.

Being a teacher is hard. For the past week we have been helping with a local school. I have been in the P2 class, which is the age range of second grade. I there are eight students in the P2 class. The teachers here have been taught to write something on the board, read it to the children, and have them repeat it over and over until they have memorized it. Then the children have to draw a picture of what they learned about.  Most of the kids cannot read. In an attempt to help these kids actually learn to read, and give the teacher another teaching tool, I introduced them to Bingo,...

A Hug From God

Touch. That’s a word I am very familiar with. Anybody who has spent even just a day with me can tell you that I like to touch a lot. Not in any inappropriate way of course. It’s my love language; a simple tap from me, or a hug is my way of showing people that I feel comfortable around them and that I care for them.    Many people really like that about me. Many people find it peculiar. Some people just think it is straight up annoying, which, if I’m being honest, is a feeling probably warranted… who would have thought that not everyone’s love...
