And We Danced

“I’m SUCH an amazing dancer!” are words that have never left my mouth. (Well, maybe they have, but they were dripping with sarcasm.) Those who know me understand that my dancing skills are far from decent, but I can definitely have fun with awkward outbursts of what I call ‘dance.’ In all honesty, dance has never been my thing. Music itself is a huge way I can connect with Him, but really only when I listen to it or sing it. Being able to sing to Him feels as if I’m sitting right there in His arms, safe and secure. Dancing on the other hand, I can’t...

God, you crazy!

As a child, the God I worshiped was big, all-powerful, just, all-knowing, and way up in the sky. He was sometimes kind of scary. And while that is for the most part true, there’s so much more to a God worthy of all our praise. As I’ve matured in my faith, God has become my companion, my teacher, my comfort zone, and my best friend. He is involved in every single aspect of my life. Throughout the course of this trip, the Lord has focused on teaching me the latter: that he is so dang involved. He is so present. He is doing big things right before my eyes. He’s not the...

Lants, Dants, and Skirt Man

When we arrived in Swaziland, I felt the immediate culture shock. It had been six days since seeing my parents and about two weeks since I had seen my friends. My mind couldn’t grasp the 16 hour flight into the African winter. The girls on my team were so welcoming and gave me a sense of comfort and home. Yet, those first couple days I spent the majority of my time talking with God trying to make sense of this crazy thing I had done. God, am I going to make it through this whole month? Am I going to get along with these people? Am I going to build lifelong connections? Am I, am I, am...

Saying Goodbye

Today we head out of South Africa.  Hard to believe we have been here for 21 days.  Pray for good goodbyes at around 12:30 south Africa time, after the kids get out of school and before they eat lunch. We head out for the airport at around 1:30-2:00 pm and then board our plane to leave at 5:40.  Currently everything is on time.  Pray it remains so.   Goodbyes are always difficult, but as our host said yesterday it is so great knowing that the kids we leave here are in wonderful hands.  We know that they are going to continue to grow in their families here as...

I am content

I am content. Throughout this trip I’ve been through some hard experiences internally and externally. It’s been a journey and I’ve learned so much. These past few days have been a true blessing and I just wanted to share it. I really know what it’s like to wake up feeling content. I was praying so hard for peace and patience. It all came together on Thursday and Friday. I woke up and it took me awhile but I noticed how content I was. In the moment I couldn’t pin point the word, yes, I was happy and joyful but the word “content” really...

Expectations

Expectations.   The end. The thing we’ve all been dreading from day one, Just like that—we are at the END of our trip. Feeling like just yesterday we were entering the doors for worship at training camp on the 1st day, our time here in Guatemala has quickly came to an end.  Upon acceptance into my trip; I did the thing that we all do, watch the videos, run to the #GoAMB & #AdventuresInMissions hashtags only to see the smiles behind the pictures, and all the fun things you get to do while abroad. Naturally, my excitement aroused. However, what those pictures &...
