Perspective vs reality in South Africa

Some days here in South Africa it really comes down to my perspective of how I believe things will go verse the reality of how things will actually go. NEWS FLASH, Kate!! This is Africa. Back in America things are so easy. You can pick up your phone whenever you want and call friends or family or boyfriends/girlfriends. You can just get in your car and run to the grocery store if you run out of something. Everything is practically at your finger tips. I know how America works and I’m so use to how everything is there. Honestly I thought I was prepared to be away for a month. I though that...

Saying Goodbye

Today we head out of South Africa.  Hard to believe we have been here for 21 days.  Pray for good goodbyes at around 12:30 south Africa time, after the kids get out of school and before they eat lunch. We head out for the airport at around 1:30-2:00 pm and then board our plane to leave at 5:40.  Currently everything is on time.  Pray it remains so.   Goodbyes are always difficult, but as our host said yesterday it is so great knowing that the kids we leave here are in wonderful hands.  We know that they are going to continue to grow in their families here as the...

The power of prayer

I think I’ve cried more this week then the previous weeks here in Ingane Yami. Emotional wreck the max – but – it’s for good reasons and the Lord is moving. Today (Thursday, July 21st) was one of those days that you will remember forever. We woke up early this morning and a few of us girls headed to Hillcrest Primary School to lead a short worship session. Kids ranging from 5 to 13 years old arrived and grouped outside of the school to hear us worship. Behki and Zee (the couple we are staying with) lead worship and of course, they sang in Zulu. It was neat to see how...

TruLife

Kloof Harvest Church near Durban has been our host church these past 2.5 weeks. Ingane Yami is just one of the many programs that Kloof supports in the Durban surrounding areas. Another program which we had the privilege of witnessing is called True Life. True Life is an internship program in which young adults who are interested in dramatic, creative, and media arts use their gifts to reach the children and youth of local primary and secondary schools. We had the opportunity to attend two of these True Life productions in our final week here at Dassenhoek. Half of our team loaded up with the...

Whatsoever you Do

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” Colossians 3:23   On Saturday during our off day we had the yummy privilege of heading to a restaurant called Stretta which was a delicious Italian restaurant with a Café vibe.  We dined on pasta and desserts and the girls were definitely stuffed by the end.  We also had the opportunity to meet and spend time learning the story of our waitress Portia and the work that she is doing in her village.   We first got on the topic of ministry when she asked us what...
