Puerto Rico Update!

Greetings from Puerto Rico! The weather is warm, but the breeze is wonderful! Everyone is doing so well.  We’ve been getting a work out while doing manual labor. (and drinking lots of water)We’ve also had an opportunity to walk around the community and pray over the area. Today, we will be doing evangelism! We are enjoying the time getting to know one another and the people/country of Puerto Rico.  Thank you for your support and prayers. Puerto Rico Team!

Team USA, Day 4: Going to School

Today we went to school. But it wasn’t your typical sit-in-a-classroom day at school. We got down and dirty cleaning and organizing. My team and I had the opportunity to sit down with the principal of a K-8 school in Pilsen and just get real for a minute. He was so friendly and made us laugh a lot, but he also told us about the corruption in our school system and the difficulties of being a principal today. After much laughing and some deep conversations, we split into groups to get to work. One group went to dust, wash walls, and clean windows, another to help organize a...

The Lord’s Word Stays True, No Matter What Language You Speak

Hola Amigos! It’s ya girl comin atcha live from Nicaragua!! It’s been about two days here and i feel convicted to share a little bit of what I’ve experienced. Most importantly- eating iguana. never . again. This morning, our team went into a small village called San Carlos to preach the gospel to people in their homes. The houses are a sight to see- every stick and every scrap are used for a purpose. Their yards are covered by plants and flowers sprouting out of old metal cans or other scraps of trash. They have a way of making anything beautiful. It’s all really...

Team USA: The Old Lighthouse

When many people think of mission trips, they immediately think of third world countries and people who have nothing, but that’s just not true! Today my team and I went to the Pacific Garden Mission in the South Loop of Chicago! Nicknamed The Old Lighthouse, PGM is the oldest continuously operating rescue mission in the country, and has been serving the homeless in Chicago since 1877! In addition to providing food and shelter, PGM seeks to show the life-changing love of Christ to every person who enters. To come for a meal, people first attend a church service, which happens before...

Team USA, Day 3: Pilsen Comes Alive

Day one of full-on ministry was an interesting one to say the least. We were tasked with gutting an abandoned apartment owned by Dunamis Church and found that it had extreme flood damage and was covered in mold. Everything inside had to be cleared out and taken to the dump, which required strength, determination, a strong stomach, and protective clothing and respirators!! The coolest thing about this whole day, though, had nothing to do with clearing out the apartment. While we were cleaning, the community outside was in full blossom. People were walking around and asking us if they...

Beautifully and Wonderfully Made

As we head to Ecuador and I reflect on my time at training camp, I am thankful for the ways I’ve grown. One of the main topics we have focused on is identity. We have been asked to reflect on what we have been telling ourselves about our identities.  I had been telling myself I’m not good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, people don’t like me, and I’m irrelevant. I realized when I was telling myself these things, they were lies and I was being negatively impacted.  God tells us we were created for great purpose. We are beautifully and wonderfully made. I...
