Day 2 in Guatemala

Vacation Bible study in San Pedro   “It was a new experience for us today with Vacation Bible School. We built relationships with people who don’t speak our language. We sang songs about Jesus. My favorite part: I loved getting to use what little Spanish I had to connect with the kids.” -Karah  “There was something special about the kids today. I met a little boy name Lou. At first, he came up to Alyssa and me just smiling. Then later he came back to ask for help to color his picture. Then somehow, he became attached to us. It was great to have someone who...

Faith Moves Mountains Bro

Last Saturday, we set out on what we thought would be a “leisurely hike” up Monte Cristi. When we pulled up, it was rainy and cold, but we decided to hike anyways. About five minutes in, our expectations were shattered. The path before us was rocky and nearly straight up. For nearly two hours, we climbed, we slipped, and we fell. There were many laughs, some tears, and a whole lot of mud. We were so relieved when we finally reached the top, but just wait… In order to get down the mountain, we had to sit on our butts and slide because it was so muddy. Whenever we slid, we...

Beauty For Ashes Widows Retreat

We were asked to put on a retreat for 40 widows that Vision Nicaragua works with. We picked the story of Ruth to show how our Heavenly Father loves and provides for us, meeting us in our despair. Turning our mourning to joy (Jeremiah 31) and bringing beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:1-3.)   We had 40 beautiful ladies join us for our retreat.  Most have been widowed at a young age because of the kidney disease that men get here in Nicaragua.  The men work in the sugar cane fields.  The sugar cane is sprayed with a pesticide that is cheap and effective but causes kidney...

Seeing Christ Everywhere

As we come to a close in our time in Ecuador, I am in awe of the ways I have seen Christ in many of the people here. The Ecuadorians we met are warm and greet one another with a handshake and a kiss on the cheek. They are inclusive and truly treat each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Before coming to Ecuador, someone sent me a quote saying, Look for Christ and you will find Him. And with Him, everything else. – CS Lewis   I have seen Christ in their actions. One day last week, our team had the opportunity to go to a three-hour prayer meeting where the church members...
