An Attempt at Closure

As I sit here on a borrowed computer in a hotel in Atlanta, I find myself with too much to say, and yet nothing that seems to make sense as I start typing. Our team has shared everything from clothes and toothpaste to laughter and tears. We have bonded over new experiences in a foreign country, and have come back with a bigger picture of the amazing God we serve. I know by now the stories are starting to spill out to family and friends. The mixed reactions and emotions of coming home are catching up with me, and leaving the community of our small team is bittersweet....

Anaranjados Ojos

It was a hot Thursday night in Matamoros, Mexico. The sun was setting and the mosquitoes were swarming. The team was forming constellations with bites on their legs and arms. A family of spiders parade around the room mocking them. Shniece leaps out of her bed and hammers them with a pink flip-flop. The smell of melting skin from Jocelyn’s sunburn reeks throughout the room. Alex angrily wakes up to the sound of Sally chomping an apple. Alex ferociously reaches for her stash of sour patch kids, takes a dose, reinserts her pink earplugs and growls back to sleep. Again, Shniece hops out...

A Little Photo Goodness

<~~ We went for a hike on our day off!!! Quite the adventure…                                                              <~~~ Josh had an unfortunate run-in with the cook. Gwapa Ka

The past couple of weeks have been nothing short of life changing. And on a more serious note: I have witnessed material poverty like never before. It was a couple of days ago when I was surrounded by dirt, trash, and...

Helado Coco

We had a really restful weekend and got to enjoy the ocean a whole lot. We started ministry on Monday morning with a trip to the Colonia, Invasion. We got to meet a lot of the families in the colonia and pray for some of their needs. There was a family in the colonia who had lost their children’s birth certificates in the floods. The picture above is of us presenting replacement birth certificates for their kids. The dad was so proud! Tuesday, we got to return to the same colonia bringing with us several gallons of clean drinking water. We prayed over the water and...
