Feeding Children at a Carepoint

Sam loving one of the kids! Kayla holding one of the babies!!  We fasted yesterday and by 8:30am many of our stomachs were already making themselves known with rumbles of hunger. We had eaten a great dinner of salad, roasted veggies, pasta and even ice-cream the night before, but our bodies were ready for breakfast. It was a sobering moment as we thought about the kids we work with at thecarepoints each day. We feed them a bowl of pop (corn mush) and beans every afternoon and this is often the only food that will touch their lips. One small meal a day. And yet, they show up with...

From Your Students!

Internet has been rough these past few days, but it’s back up today! We asked half of the team to share a few of their own thoughts and wanted to share them with you. You’ll be hearing from the other half very soon!   The WHOLE group at one of the carepoints. What has God been revealing to you in Swaziland? Throughout the short time that we have been in Swaziland, God has revealed to me what my heart os capable of doing. When we get to spend time with the kids, God has shown me to love like I never have before. He has also been revealing to me that He is a God that is...

Sharing God’s Love in Swaziland

Our team flag.  Our handprints on the Swazi mountains. Monday through Friday we get to spend most of our day at the carepoints [where the kids are taught, fed and looked after]. We help out with the preschool classes, cook with the grandmas, hold beautiful children, help with the Bible club, and sweat through an array of crazy running games. It’s a pretty fantastic way to spend the day. One of my favorite moments each day is our arrival. We ride in an old, rickety African van and the roar of our engine pronounces our coming long before we actually arrive. However, the moment...

One AMAZING First Week

amily and Friends, We made it! We arrived in South Africa later in the evening on Tuesday after a long 16 hour flight across the ocean. After a variety of movies, some not-so-bad plane food and a little turbulence we were all ready to be on solid ground again. We spent out first African night in a hotel near the airport before we enjoyed a breakfast of eggs, jam and toast, an assortment of meats, cereal and fresh squeezed passion fruit juice. We were pretty sure we could get used to that, but instead we jumped on a 20-passenger van and headed out on a beautiful ride towards the...

Safe in South Africa!

Hello friends and family! This morning we were up at an early 6am to clean and pack and leave the homestead (tears of sadness…but also of joy to never have to get a whiff of the squatties again!)  Of course we couldn’t leave the area without stopping at the corner store to purchase 100, yes that’s right, 100 fat cakes to munch on for breakfast.  The owner of the store actually woke up at 3am that day to make fat cakes for us because she knew we would be stopping by.  We felt so blessed! This past week has been bittersweet as we’ve had to say goodbye to...
