Hey y’all! It’s now exactly a week until I get to see my parents again, and I’ll have to say goodbye to the wonderful people who have become my family for the past month.
Today, I wanted to tell you about a major part of our ministry for the past week! We’ve been doing mostly street ministry this whole week, which consists of talking to strangers and praying for them, along with these things called ATL’s, which stands for Ask The Lord.
To explain how it works, I’ll tell you one of the stories from this past Sunday! So we were in the park praying for people, and then our leaders had us stop and spend time asking God for an image of who or what he wanted us to watch for and be in prayer over. So I got the image of a man in a green baseball cap. I didn’t know what the man would look like, but I knew the exact color of the cap.
So me and my two teammates set out for the market, which smells like rotting fish and dog poop, and we weaved our way through hundreds of people all trying to go in different directions. It was chaos. I saw two or three green caps but it just didn’t feel right, so I prayed for them from a distance and kept going. We went up to a few random people who looked like they were in need of prayer and we talked to them and prayed over them until it was almost time to go. Then we were on our way back to our leaders, and I had given up hope of seeing the man. Right then, with the leaders in sight, I SAW HIM. I literally jumped for joy and yelled, “That’s him!” and went running over there as nonchalantly as one can run. I tapped him on the shoulder, and luckily Francisco, who speaks fluent Spanish, was with me, so he was able to tell the man that I saw his green cap in a vision from God. The man looked so excited as we explained that we were missionaries. He told us he was a Christian, and we were able to pray over his life and over his family! I also got a picture with him, but that’s going to have to come later because it’s on my camera!
As for the rest of the week, we’ve done two programs in neighboring village schools, where we’ve gotten to sing Spanish songs, play games, and do two Bible skits. I’ve gotten to be the paralyzed man four times now, which is so fun because I get to have people carry me to Jesus and then run around like a crazy person when I get healed!
Also, my favorite part of each day has been small group. My leader, Niko, is amazing and has been speaking so much truth over each of us. God has blessed him with the gift of prophecy and joy. Each person in our group brings me so much happiness. It’s amazing to be able to see everyone’s beautiful hearts that are sold out for God.
Dinner and walking up the huge hill is also a fun part of the day because of Logan (who may or may not have forced me to write this in this post). But we’ve been having amazing Guatemalan food and fellowship around the table each night. The conversations with him usually consist of Justin Bieber, constipation, and ex-girlfriends/boyfriends. There’s never a dull moment when he’s around.
Also, I just want to say how much I love Alyssa, who’s in my small group and one of my two roommates! She is a passionate leader and listener, and I’m so glad I’ve gotten to know her so well!
Anyway, today we are going ziplining, and I just signed my life away on a piece of paper, so if I don’t see you again, this is goodbye!
Have a blessed week! To
