The LORD’S Response

The LORD’s Response “Must God tailor His justice to our demands?” Easy answer: No. But really, how often do we expect God give into our needs and wants? Why do we question the Lord instead of falling to our knees in worship? I stand guilty. Swaziland is a beautiful Kingdom nestled between South Africa and Mozambique. The way light hits the rolling hills, turning purple as the sun sets is beyond compare. Every day as we drive out of the city, I picture God’s hands forming the land, intricately designing the very trees we drive by, painting every leaf. I see His...

Yebo, Nkulunkulu

Yebo, Nkulunkulu. Pursuing God is about saying yes. Travelling into the beautiful, petite country of Swaziland felt almost like discovering a secret as we drove into the mountains of Mazini from the bustling city of Johannesburg. Fourteen women in total, our team is composed of lion-hearts –fourteen souls who took the step to say yes to the calling of serving those in need. Global service is not new to me. God called me into this work years ago when I was a freshman in high school. What is new to me is a connection with the Holy Spirit that I have not been willing to expose my heart...

A Life Beyond My Wildest Dreams

When I was in elementary school, I never would have imagined that the Lord would choose me for the mission field. I was always intrigued by the missionaries that visited my church- their lives seemed so exotic and so adventurous- but the idea of me being a missionary was beyond my wildest dreams. I believed that I was too young, too scared, too insignificant for something so amazing. But God believed otherwise. As I grew up, the Lord stirred in me a passion and a calling for international missions. I went on several short-term trips, but a still small voice promised me that the Lord had...

The Newness of My God

The Newness of My God   The wind blows my tangled hair back as I glance out the window to a world that seems so foreign to me. I smile as our small bus (which happens to run on prayer alone) bumps along the dirt road, long past the familiar buildings and sidewalks of town. It is our first day of ministry, and my team buzzes with excitement and a willingness to serve God. I spot the brightly painted buildings of Bheveni Carepoint almost immediately as we approach. They stand in stark contrast to the pale dirt roads and gray mountains in the distance. As we park, the children swarm,...

Love is all We Need

James says in James 2:5, “Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?” When my team and I visited a Carepoint on Friday, I was reminded of this verse because I had read the book of James during one of my quiet times at Training Camp. As I looked into the eyes of those children, I was looking into the eyes of those who were chosen by God. He chose these little souls to inherit the kingdom of God because they are his adopted children; he loved them so much...

Love, Joy, and Compassion Need No Language

Coming into this trip I knew the language barrier would be something we would have to work around and be able to overcome. During the first days of our time here, we started learning some very simple Siswati phrases and words to help bridge the gap. Most of the older people have a good grasp on English, but the children have little understanding besides what they have been learning in their preschool class. Let me just say, this language is not an easy one to just pick up and learn. The clicks alone were enough to discourage us.  So we were faced with the problem of how to communicate...
