The Last Few Days… by the Girls

Klaire Fisher: Journey to San Pedro As we drove to San Pedro, we experienced a long, joyful ride through the mountains of Guatemala. We met a young boy who shined shoes for a living. We saw cows and chickens on the side of the road, and we took lots of pictures. After an hour of altitude sickness, we caught our first glimpse of beautiful Lake Atitlán and we were in awe of the sight. There were clear blue skies over the lake and breathtaking volcanoes surrounding it. When we first drove through San Pablo, we were so excited with taking pictures that we had to be reminded that the...

Enjoying San Pedro

When the team arrived in Guatemala my laptop broke down….prayed over laptop and it came back. At internet cafe right now.  We are all well and enjoying San Pedro! This morning we went to a Baptist church with the 1 month Ambassador team and later this evening we will attend another, where we will be singing, sharing, drimes etc. Sorry we are unable to post pictures right now. Wish we could – it’s beautiful as are the people!  This is such a talented team of girls. The three of us leaders are loving every minute with them. Our team times are filled with great...

Our First Day!

What a blessing to be with this group of girls. In the last few hours… while us leaders catch up on a few things (like some needed sleep)… the team of girls have been singing worship songs, showering, resting and… a whole lot of laughing.   So – What a first day! Let’s see, in order to pick off where Jessica left off last night…I’ve asked a couple of the gals to share some about our first day.  I hope to update this way daily…however, that will depend on the internet in San Pedro. Heading there...

Celebrating the 4th of July in Guatemala

This is what we did for the Fourth of July:             As a team we woke up very early and packed our things because we were moving hotels. We moved from Casa Lola to Hotel Paraiso before going to breakfast at a local restaurant. Even though it’s not paradise (the showers shock you and fireworks are constantly exploding nearby), this hotel is a lot better than we all expected we were going to be staying in. It even has a coconut tree where young men may entertain themselves by knocking coconuts off of it. Eating is always an...

A Place of Contrasts

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound” Isaiah 61:1   Guatemala is a place of contrasts. The lake and mountains surrounding us are gloriously beautiful, but the concrete houses and trash-lined streets that make up everyday life here in San Pedro present a very different view. Even though many of the people here live in what Americans would consider extreme poverty they...

Annnddd… We’re Off!

I sit here typing this at 10:45 pm.  We have just completed our comissioning service and our last night of training camp.  In about four hours (yes, folks that is 3am. Yikes!) we load up the big yellow bus that brought most of us to Gainesville two days ago, and begin our journey!  These last couple of days of training camp have been a whirlwind of team builders, teachings and time to get to know one another.  I have been so impressed at how our team has jumped right into the craziness of traning camp and their desire to grow together as a little family for the next two...
