greetings from San Pedro, Guatemala! our trip this far has been an adventure, and I’m so blessed to be able to be on this beautiful adventure with my best friends.
these past two days have been tough on our team as a whole as we had to send home one of our own last night due to worsening allergic reactions. as a team, we spent hours last night in tears and prayer. though we hate to see her leave our group, we hated even more to see her suffering.
today was a test of faith as well and many of us were not feeling well. it could have been something we ate or simply nerves, but while trying to describe what was happening today, one thing came to mind: spiritual warfare. and though I’d heard the term before, I had never really understood what it meant. so off I went to find Google and my bible(my favorite go to’s) and I stumbled across a quote from Billy Graham that struck me:
“Where the Lord works, Satan’s forces hinder; where angel beings carry out divine directives, the devils rage. All this comes about because the powers of darkness press their counterattack to recapture the ground held for the glory of God”
reading this made me understand completely. there was in fact, spiritial warfare going on here. where God’s presence is, the devil is also. fighting back and trying his hardest to recapture the ground in which we have claimed for the Lord. God is present in Guatemala and is at work within us and the community. through our sickness and through our tears, the devil is trying his hardest to discourage us. I can’t help but laugh at him. does he not realize how big our God is? and how strong we are in the Lord? his power over us isn’t half as strong as the Lord’s and this ground will never belong to him.
please be in prayer for my team and I as we push through illness, clinging to what is good and pure and finding out strength in the Lord. please also be in prayer for our team member who is currently boarding a flight to her home state where she can receive proper medical treatment and get rest so she could find strength and energy again. and last, be in prayer for our team leaders, Chris and Amanda especially, as these past few days have been especially hard on them through trips to the hospital, and then the airport. pray for safe travels for them as they venture back to join our team again tomorrow night.
God is still at work in Guatemala, now more than ever. thank you all for your support. God bless,
Court
