Travel Like a Game of Tetris

Nepal. A place where we pack into vans like playing Tetris. A place where crossing the street is like playing frogger. The first few days here the devil hit me hard. Once my team leader Chris White reached out and we gave it to God it all changed. 1 John 2 became real. “I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.” 1 John? ?2:13. The father has overcame and will always overcome. I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for the rest of my time here. So far while being here we have prayed to our Heavenly Father at two different...

Living that Tico Life

Tico means Costa Rican. We love it here. As we dive into culture and have conversation with locals, we are learning what it looks like to love and serve this culture well. From VBS to painting a community center to Olympic games with neighborhood kids, this team has been BUSY. Yesterday we went out into San Jose to get a little bit out of our comfort zone. We evangelized to the locals, sharing the name of Jesus.  “We started out timid and ended the day with a new confidence.” Emma Williams  Here’s a little glimpse into our time here so far:  ...

First Impressions

It’s been a whole week since this journey began and I can honestly say that time has flown. Never before have I felt God’s presence so strongly for so long, yet I know He’s not going anywhere – I’ve never felt like I was supposed to be somewhere like how I feel like I’m supposed to be here. These girls have become like family so quickly. Laughter echoes through our house and I know I can talk to every girl about anything and they will listen. I can’t help but thank God that he put them in my life....

Team USA, Day 9: A Different Kind of Independence Day

Today was my favorite 4th of July I’ve ever experienced. Instead of going to the beach or a park, we went to Pacific Gardens Mission. Many of those who are in or who have completed the New Day program (rehab and Biblical study) work at the mission, and since we have been working mostly in the kitchen, we get to see most of the same people each time we go. For the 4th of July, PGM threw a massive block party for the residents and visitors! They had a huge barbecue, Sno-Cones, Bags (or “Cornhole,” depending on where you’re from!), face painting, basketball, a bouncy...

Dios Sabe – Ecuadorian Faith

Faith, love, and head nods are universal. Yet, something I have observed in Ecuador is a bold, thirsty faith—not that this front forward trust isn’t in other places, but here the openness of the people magnifies their undeniable reliance upon God. Here, people are willing to step out in faith to receive songs and prayers in a language they do not understand.  In contrast, I am guilty of being comfortable in my faith. When Christianity is free and open—as in our great country—sitting in comfort can be very dangerous. With all the resources and churches we...

Albania blogs!

After a few long flights and layovers we have finally made it to Albania and God has taught me many things along the way. We were welcomed by our host, George, who has taught us practical work skills, and skills we need to grow spiritually. From training camp, to the first night here, the idea that sticks out to me is being intentional with others and God. In a foreign place with new faces and challenges it can be easy to distance ourselves from God and the people around us. Our team decided as a group that being intentional would be one of our goals for this trip. I’ve tried to...
