We have been in Guatemala a few hours shy of a week.  Here are a few more glimpses of what we’ve been up to.

Here is where we eat our meals.  We eat at the house of a family member of our pastor, Pastor Antonio.  We sit at 3 long tables and pretty much always end up laughing entirely too loud.

This is an example of a breakfast we have had.  The pastor’s wife is an incredible cook…we are guaranteed to not come home malnourished!

We have spent a lot of our time praying for people in two different communities- San Pablo and San Marcos.  Justin said, “I could spend all day, everyday praying for people.  I know it strengthens them but it also encourages me.”

During our time praying we have entered lots of houses.  It has been humbling to say the least.  Abby said after one afternoon of praying, “I am so humbled by the conditions people live in.  I’ve heard about it and seen pictures but actually standing there, next to them, in their home is really impacting.”  Below is a picture of one of the houses.

One fact we have learned is that the average Guatemalan in our town (and the 11 surrounding towns) doesn’t speak more Spanish than we do.  They actually speak some form of an ancient Mayan language.  That’s really interesting after all those Spanish conversations we thought we were having.  Below is the name of the language…good luck pronouncing that one.

Last Friday was San Pedro day (which is a lot like the fourth of July) and we got to go to the Costa Rica vs. San Pedro soccer match.  While San Pedro got creamed, it was awesome to watch a team play that will be in the Olympics in a few short weeks (go Costa Rica!).  This is a group shot we took on our way to the game (with Lake Atitlan and San Pedro in the background).

During church on Sunday we sang a few songs and Rachel and Justin boldly shared things the Lord has done in each of their lives.  Here they are doing so:

We are quickly learning that the term ‘road’ really doesn’t mean much.  Here is a shot of one of them that we travel on each day on the way to the church.  Bumpy is an understatement.

And lastly here is a group shot…everyone is happy, healthy, and more alive than ever!

We’ll be home before you know it.  Please pray that we soak up every minute of our remaining time here.
